I'm really glad

Summer is HERE you guys! And with summer, comes hot weather in the majority of the world! Here in Tokyo, we have just come out of our rainy season (where it rains every. single. day for 3 months straight) and launched into our hot and humid summer season.
For seven years, I photographed in the Deep South, in those hot and swampy summer months. I like to think that each of those experiences, particularly those August summer weddings, has made me an expert in staying as cool and comfortable as possible during any and all photo sessions. When we moved to Japan, I uncovered an entire corner of the market designed to keep you cool in the summer. It is totally normal to sweat! But for a photo session, you want to find easy ways to stay fresh while being photographed, right? YEP! I feel you, friend! These are five of my favorite products, with comparable swaps, that can be delivered to your door, worldwide.
1. These Gatsby Ice Deodorant wipes will leave you feeling less sticky and refreshed! I carry a slightly different version of these with me in my bag during sessions right now, but these are excellent and widely used in Japan. They are great for your chest, neck, arms and legs. A quick stop to freshen up does a world of wonders if you’re feeling like you’re wilting. These are compact enough where you can throw them in a diaper bag or backpack and you are ready to roll!
2. Biore Z Body Gel. Okay. So this stuff is my ABSOLUTE favorite for keeping cool! It is excellent for your chest, the crooks of your arms, underneath your booty cheeks, and behind your knees. This one is a little more tricky to ship stateside and worldwide, but I did find a link to it on eBay! If you are in Japan, you can find this at Cainz and Joyful Honda (these are our stores similar to Target or Walmart for those in the US wondering what the heck I’m talking about).
3. Worried about under arm sweat? I gotchu! This version is available on Amazon, and will help keep your underarms dry and less sticky. Particularly with long sleeve shirts or longer short sleeve shirts! There are tons of different selections to choose from, including different sizes. Make sure you choose a brand and size that fits comfortable under your shirt without sticking out!
4. A quick, no mess, powder to absorb extra sweat is what you want! The version I carry is only available in Japan or through Amazon JP, but good old fashioned Gold Bond powder spray does the trick. With Gold Bond, I would test it out with an outfit prior to your session if you are using this on your chest/back/bra band/waist band area. You just want to make sure there isn’t a white residue left behind.
5. I was SO shocked when I found Pocari Sweat on my US Amazon account! This is my absolute favorite to hydrate with if I know I am going to be out in the heat for long periods of time. Sometimes, regular water just doesn’t cut it, and we need a little something extra to get the job done. Stateside, we have a ton of options available like Gatorade. Pocari Sweat is sold in almost every vending machine in Japan, and to me, functions like a souped up Gatorade. These handy packets make it really easy to mix up a bottle of your own for the ultimate hydration. Plus, it tastes pretty dang good compared to other sports drinks!
I would love to hear from you guys! What are some of your favorite products to stay cool with in the summer? Drop them in the comments below!
