A few years ago, your girl was booked, busy, and ready to take on as much work as possible. Hustle was my word, and you couldn't knock it, baby. Every single sign and symptom of burnout that waved a red flag in my face, was staunchly ignored. Surely, this was a "busy season", and in a few months, everything would calm down again...right?
Uh, nope. That was not at all what was going down.
After months of packing as much as I could into my schedule, I headed to a retreat for small business leaders with my husband (this gets ironic real fast) that was supposed to be a time to relax and recharge. But get this, gang. I spent every night holed up in my hotel room, editing photos for work I was way behind on. Why? Because my time management sucked. I was overbooked, overworked, and absolutely exhausted. Systems were failing left and right, my computer was crashing, and so was I. Within 24 hours, my body said enough is enough. A crippling migraine was first, and then, the flu hit, forcing me to miss not only the rest of the retreat, but a workshop I had been looking forward to for over a year.
Distraught and drained, I knew that something had to change. Otherwise, the business that I had worked so hard to build, was going to come crashing down all around me.
The next year was spent rebuilding my systems, fixing the overworked mess of a schedule I had created. Refocusing on what was important. Creating a business that was INTENTIONAL with practices that GAVE more time rather than took time away from the life I cherished so much. Within that year, I was able to not only create MORE time for my family, but open up a studio space, fulfilling a life long dream.
