Boudoir Style with Beauty by Amy Frey

How did you get started in hair and makeup?
In eighth grade, we had to choose a career and then find someone to shadow for a day. I chose a hairdresser! I’ve pretty much known sense then, that I wanted to be a hair stylist! Makeup artistry is something that I never really thought about until I was in cosmetology school! Who knew that you could make a living off doing someone’s makeup?! 2016 is starting my sixth year as a stylist!

Describe your hair and makeup style
I would describe my personal style as classic with a modern twist! With makeup, I LOVE a timeless neutral eye with a more trendy dark lip. Hair trends are constantly changing! I’ve done everything under the sun! I love the soft, textured waves that are so trendy right now, but I also love big, voluminous hair that never goes out of style.

What kind of experience do you like to give your clients?

I always try to give each client an experience that is tailored to their wants and needs. I close each service with the hope that no one leaves my chair with any questions about what products I used, why I used them, and how to achieve the same look at home!

How did you get into doing hair and makeup for photo shoots?
I started doing hair and makeup for photoshoots close to a year ago! Kate and I have a mutual friend who introduced us to one another and the rest is history!

What kinds of products do you use?
I use L’Anza hair products and I use their color line as well. With makeup, I have a hodge podge of things! My favorite foundation is Yves Saint Laurent Forever Youth Liberator!

What is your favorite part about your job?
The best thing about being a hair stylist and makeup artist is empowering women to feel comfortable in their own skin. There’s no greater feeling than having someone see themselves the way everyone else does.

What looks do you love for boudoir sessions?
Boudoir hair and makeup sets the tone for the whole shoot! I love big curls! As for makeup, I love starting off with a light, airy look and finishing with something a little more dramatic!

For busy moms like you, what’s your favorite makeup + hair looks?
My go to makeup look takes me around 15 minutes from start to finish! I always apply foundation first and then set it with a loose powder. Next, i sweep on a little blush and then move on to the eyes. I typically do a nude shadow on the lid, a taupe color in the crease and finish with mascara! I generally wear my hair straight and tease the crown for some added volume and a “messy” look!
